"What's taking him so long?" Talon thought, "He should be here by now!" Lord Talon was growing impatient by the second because his "super ninja" should have been back by now. His other two henchmen, Zelda and Ionis, were having one of their usual squabbles. Ignoring them, he continued to pace the ground and began muttering to himself. "Daishi, you miserable excuse for a lackey, you’ve never made me wait. Where are you?" "Right behind you, my Lord." In shock, Talon let out a little yelp as he turned to see Diashi behind him. "It's about time, Diashi. You never keep me waiting, you must be losing your edge." Talon sneered. "I guess you need to be replaced, my friend." "Lord Talon, rest assured I am not losing my edge. I just finished my reconnaissance of the perimeter, and…" "Yes?" Talon asked, eyes widened. "And just as you said, Gina and her party have continued their excursion without knowing of my whereabouts." Diashi continued. "It is safe to follow them now." "Hey," Zelda interrupted, "Why are we waiting for them to enter first? We don't need them to find our way through that building. This is a perfect chance to finish them once and for all!" Ionis sighed. "Oh ye of little brains, don't you get it? If they enter first, they will disarm all the traps and give us a clear way into the tomb. Then we ambush them and steal their discoveries and treasures from right under their nose. This is a very simple plan, do you understand or do I need to explain it to you again?" "Bite me, Cueball." snorted Zelda. "Now, now, settle down children." Talon said, "We have schedules to keep and treasures to steal. Let's move out troops."
Masuda
"Sundown." Takeshi thought. "He wasn't kidding, it is getting cold" The savannah was becoming darker and darker each moment and still no sign of the strodon. "I'll never catch it at this rate. What a total waste of a day." Activating the compass on his gauntlet, he tried to locate where he was. "Comlink: locate target Takeshi Masuda." The gauntlet started to make sounds and then blinked: !!!!ERROR: TARGET TAKESHI MASUDA NOT FOUND. ERROR!!!! "Great." He grumbled. "I'm nowhere" "Well, I'm not really worried, I'll Just retrace my steps." He activated the gauntlet again. "Comlink: target home base." Again the gauntlet made sounds and then blinked: !!!!ERROR: TARGET HOMEBASE NOT FOUND. ERROR!!!! "Ok," Masuda said, "now I'm worried" The savannah had become pitch black and Takeshi could not see, even with his night visor. Very cold and very hungry, he stumbled through the dark trying to find a place to stay. Then he started to hear noises. Noises that weren't normal. As a child, the Elders told him that the savannah is not the place to be at night. There were stories of travelers that braved the night and were never seen alive again. He could recall talk of evil creatures that lurked in the shadows in the daytime and were free to roam the main lands torturing whomever was brave or foolish enough to venture out at night. Masuda remembers the stories well and was frightened by them, but he was a young cub then. He is a grown man now, and does not believe such nonsense. "Those stories were just frighten me so I would behave." He thought. "Just Stories." Just then, he felt something brush by his leg, wet and somewhat scaly. He dared not move. "Just Stories." he repeated, "They are just Stories." His breathing became harder and his heart began to race. Then something wet and slimy started to lick him from his foot to his arm. "Oh my god, it's tasting me!!!!" Takeshi was now petrified and wanted to get away. He waited for his chance. He could not see, but he could hear perfectly. He listened as it started to walk away losing interest in him. He stayed where he was just to be safe. When it was completely out of normal hearing range (five mile radius, to be precise), Takeshi got his chance. "Run!" Masuda ran as fast as he could. As long as it was nowhere near that thing, he was happy. As he sped down the dark savannah, his mind told him "keep going, don't stop". You didn't have to tell him twice! Takeshi could have run all night if he had to. Then in the distance, he saw a silhouette of a building. Running up to it he realized it was an ancient temple. A bit run down, but he was too cold and tired to care. "Well anything is better than freezing out here.," he thought. "This is a better place than most." Taking a deep breath, he entered the dark temple hoping that whatever he met out in the savannah didn't follow him. ____________________ Chapter 3 Coming Soon... |
